The Breast Cancer Journey Planner
December 4, 2008
by Vicki Tashman
At last, an easy to use, comprehensive organizer to help women deal with the
immense challenges of a breast cancer diagnosis and treatment plan. Packed full
of indispensable resources and worksheets including: helpful advice, questions
to ask your medical providers, an appointment calendar, journaling pages, a
glossary of terms, financial resources, and much more. The 3-ring binder has
pockets to store and organize information and fits in most purses, making it
easy to take to doctor your appointments. The author created the organizer based
on her first-hand experience as a cancer survivor and counselor to cancer
patients.
At the
age of 19, Carrie was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease (cancer of the lymphatic
system). A biopsy and multiple tests showed a malignant tumor in her chest the
size of dinner plate. She learned she was in Stage 3B, meaning the cancer had
spread from her chest to her pelvis. She went through major exploratory surgery,
6 months of chemotherapy and 3 months of radiation therapy.
She states, despite having many people supporting and
caring for her, she realized she had to pull herself through this very
challenging and traumatic experience. She started reading books on how to
heal and tried every healing technique, no matter how silly or crazy the
technique seemed. She feels her cancer experience gave her the ticket to begin
living her life- a life with with meaning and purpose. It was also during this
time that Carrie realized she wanted to hep people impacted by cancer make their
experience less emotionally challenging and far less traumatic.
Carrie is now a psychotherapist in private practice,
specializing in treating clients who have been impacted by cancer and clients
who wish to make major life changes. Carrie plans to write several more books
that address the needs of people diagnosed with various types of cancer. She
lives in Bellevue, Wa with her husband and is expecting their first child in
January.
