Carol Fisher, creator of Tube EZ
December 4, 2008
by Vicki Tashman
I was
diagnosed with breast cancer in November of 2005. I opted to have a mastectomy and a temporary implant. After surgery I had
two drain tubes. The drain tubes are
connected to a collection bulb. The
collection bulb comes with a safety pin
so you can pin to your clothing. I had an uncomfortable and awkward experience
with the drain tubes. I never knew what
to do with them. In the shower, I tried
an ace bandage and a terry cloth robe belt.
A few months
later, I had reconstruction surgery. I
had one drain tube with this surgery. Still having just one drain tube was awkward. My husband made a lanyard type necklace for
me to try. I wore it mostly in the
shower – it was not perfect, but a little better than tying a belt around me in
the shower.
After my
recovery, I was determined to do something to “fix” this situation for
others. The drain tubes are a nessisity
but often awkward.
It was during this
time when I came up with the idea for Tube-ez™. I experimented with several
materials and ideas. After about a year
and a half, I came up with a soft ribbon
that worked well in the shower, it is comfortable, easy to use, pretty,
and dries well. My sister and I teamed up to produce the
Tube-ez™ necklaces and our goal is to help make a difference during this time
and make this a little more comfortable for others.
