Learn about BRCA in Los Angeles
October 14, 2008
by Vicki Tashman
Sunday, Oct. 19 at 10 a.m. at University Synagogue, the Mitzvah Corps is sponsoring an event about BRCA, the so-called breast cancer gene mutation that afflicts Ashkenazi men and women. Having the gene mutation greatly increases a woman's risk of breast and ovarian cancer and a man's risk of prostate cancer. Both men and women can pass the mutation on to their children. The speakers are Dr. Richard Frieder, an obstetrics and gynecology physician with offices in Malibu and Santa Monica and Jessica Queller, a screenwriter who discovered that she had the mutation less than a year after her mother died of cancer. She has written a very powerful book about her experiences. Dr. Frieder
has teamed with Ms. Queller, who wrote the book " Pretty is What Changes,"
chronicling her experiences, for a multipart awareness series in Malibu
and Santa Monica.
Join us on October 19th for a very informative event. This event is free and open to the public. Please let your friends know about this lifesaving event.
